Finance
Running a parish such as St Andrew’s necessitates a substantial amount of money being raised every week.
There are 3 main categories of expenditure:
- To finance the worship, ministry and mission of the Church. For St Andrew’s, in 2006 this amounted to £94,730 or over £1,820 every week. A large proportion of this is our share of the expenses of the Diocese and the wider church, part of which pays for the Ministry at St Andrew’s.
- To maintain the fabric of the building so that it is there for the benefit of all in the community. To be available and safe for regular worship, private prayer, for baptisms, confirmations, weddings and funerals for all in the parish.
- To support a number of charities, sometimes for which money is additionally collected by specific appeals or activities.
Supporting St. Andrews
If you wish to support St Andrew’s, there are various ways:
- By Direct Debit from your bank account
- By the weekly regular envelope scheme
- By placing a donation in the collection basket at services
- By making a donation directly to the Treasurer
- By making a donation on the annual Gift Day
- By leaving a Legacy in your Will
It is very important if you are a Tax Payer, to make any contribution or donation using the Government's Gift Aid Scheme.
It costs you nothing but can gain St Andrew’s at present an extra 28p for every £1 that you give. A summary of Gift Aid follows. Please give generously.
Gift Aid
Gift Aid is a scheme that allows any charity to claim a refund of tax on money donated to it (currently 28p for every £1 given)
Any donations (large, small, regular or one off) to our Church by a UK tax payer, are valid for the recovery of tax. All the donor has to do is complete a Gift Aid declaration. There is no additional cost to you.
You must have paid or will have paid an amount of tax equal to the tax we reclaim. That tax can be on earned income, investments, bank and Building Society accounts or capital gains. The declaration states your name and address including postcode, a description of your gift (amount) and a statement that you wish the Church to reclaim the tax on your gift. The Church will ensure your donation and declaration are confidential.
We have written to all who are currently giving regularly to St Andrew’s Church either by bankers standing order or through the envelope scheme asking you to complete a new Gift Aid declaration. This will supersede any covenant already in existence.
If you would prefer to make one-off gifts, these can also benefit from the system and a declaration can be made on the Gift Aid envelopes that can be found at the back of St Andrew’s Church or from a churchwarden.
Our aim is to maximise the recovery of tax on the gifts to our Church for God's work in this parish. Please help by filling in a declaration if you are a taxpayer and by telling other people about the scheme.
