 |
Station 5
Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus
This station shows the hand of Simon placed on Jesus’ back as though to help him to his feet. |
 |
Station 6

This station represents Veronica wiping the face of
Jesus with a cloth. Look carefully and you should see below the cloth part
of Jesus’ face; an eye on the right and a nose on the left. |

facing you is a male hand representing Jesus’ hand. The one he is holding is
a female hand representing the women of Jerusalem. |
 |
Station 9
Jesus falls for the third time
At first glance this station may be the hardest to understand. It shows part of Jesus’ face and you should see part of his neck, chin and lips as though Jesus was laid on his back with face looking upwards. |
 |
Station 10
Jesus is stripped of his garments
This station shows the garment of Jesus being torn from his back. The hand represents the hand of a Roman centurion. |
|
Station 11
Jesus is nailed to the Cross
This station attempts to capture something of the agony of crucifixion. The hand of Jesus is held down on the Cross by the hand of his oppressor. |
|
Station 12
Jesus dies on the Cross
This station, rather like a death mask, represents the dead Christ. Viewed from the side it resembles a skull. |
|
Station 13
Jesus is taken down from the Cross
This station shows the side of a face representing the lifeless body of Jesus which is taken down from the Cross. |
|
Station 14
Jesus is laid in the tomb
This station represents the feet of Jesus slightly protruding from the shroud that would have covered his body. Why one foot is in resin and one in plaster is open to interpretation. Death and life perhaps, or maybe the divine and the human nature of Christ? |
|
Station 15
Jesus is risen
Changed in appearance, almost unrecognisable, this station shows the profile of the face of the risen Christ. |
Jesus, as we walk with you the way of the cross and consider your sufferings, grant us grace to grow in holiness, to deny self, take up our cross and always follow you. |
